Internships - a great opportunity
What is an internship?
A great way to volunteer - and gain hugely invaluable skills in the process -is by becoming an Intern. An intern is someone who works in a temporary position with an emphasis on on-the-job training rather than merely employment. Interns are usually students or post graduate adults seeking skills for a new career or to gain experience and/or to use any voluntary time in a meaningful way. Unlike interning in the corporate sector, the smaller size of most charities and their flatter structures means that charity internships expose people to much greater hands-on experience.
What’s in it for you, the intern?
● The training and experience is costing you nothing more than your time
● The chance to develop links with communal organisations and the corporate world - the vast majority of charities work with a huge variety of partners
● You can interact with professionals who can assist you to make decisions about your future career direction, which is of invaluable help
● Give you a chance to display skills and abilities to a far wider network than possible in a corporate environment
● Participating in a new environment sometimes leads to important contacts and possibly even paid work
What’s in it for the organisation?
● A chance to extend and develop your work remit
● Opportunity to nurture a potential volunteer and/or Jewish leader
● Extra pair of hands through supporting staff with their work
● Interns can offer a wide range of skills and add a new, fresh dimension to your work
