JVN welcomes CRB check changes
Friday 11 February 2011The Government new proposal would make criminal records checks portable so that individuals would not need separate checks by each organisation they worked or volunteered for.
Only those working closely and regularly with children and the vulnerable would have to register with the Independent Safeguarding Authority.
JVN is absolutely committed to protecting those most vulnerable in our society, which means potential volunteers do need CRB and other checks to ensure that they are suitable for a potential volunteering role. However, unnecessary bureaucratic red tape, which we know puts off volunteers from getting involved and delays the recruitment process in a significant way, has been a real challenge to our sector. We therefore very much welcome the Government's proposal to facilitate CRB checks by making them portable. This can only encourage more people to volunteer and get involved in their local community.
