Yoni Jesner Award Ceremony 2012
Thursday 14 June 2012The Yoni Jesner Awards are always a great evening and this year was no exception.
The 2012 Yoni Jesner Awards Ceremony was held at the Camden Centre with guests of honour, The Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks, The Rt.Hon. Erick Pickles MP and HE The Ambassador Daniel Taub. The moving and emotionally charged evening is our one of our key events of the year.
This year, 6 Schools participated: Hasmonean High School for Girls, Immanuel College, JFS, JCoSS, King Solomon High School and Yavneh College. The schools each gave moving accounts of the volunteering acts they had carried out with every student picking up their award for 20 hours of volunteering. Ambassador Taub praised the children for not only learning about Jewish values but for living them. He told the packed audience of 300 students and parents that in order to make a difference in society, you just needed to care.
The Chief Rabbi, Lord Sacks defined the difference between Tzdekah and Chessed. Tzdekah is giving money whereas Chessed is all about giving time.
JCoSS were the proud winners of the JVN Jubilee Award for Innovation in Volunteering. They were the first school to offer volunteering to Limmud as well as hosting many other activities within the school to charities.
It was a night to remember with many proud parents in the audience and a few tears shed.
