KEEN London
KEEN London is the only charity in London which offers one-to-one sports and recreational opportunities for children and young adults (our ‘athletes’) with learning, behavioural and physical disabilities, and their siblings, at no cost to their families and caregivers.
Many KEEN London athletes have been excluded from other sporting organisations, because the level of support offered is not sufficient to cope with their difficulties. Taking part in sports and recreational activities is vital not just for their physical development but also to increase their social skills.
Sessions take place weekly in Camden on Sunday mornings.
‘What KEEN means to us is a safe and fun session where both our children can share an experience,' says parent Deidre Yager. 'Our little girl can meet other children who have a sibling with a disability and this is not something strange or unusual. A truly unique opportunity!’
Each KEEN London athlete is partnered with a volunteer coach. This one-to-one training allows each athlete to work at their own pace and achieve their own goals. KEEN promotes physical development and co-ordination, helps develop social skills, and encourages teamwork.
Coaches take part in a comprehensive induction and ongoing training, and enjoy regular social events and fundraising opportunities. They can also get involved with the KEEN Volunteer Committee and Board of Trustees.
