RSVP and Active Volunteering by Disabled People
RSVP operates in Barnet. This stands for retired and senior volunteer programme which encourages and finds placement opportunities for the elderly and retired. In Barnet we have 6 projects established. This includes feeding the homeless, a knitting group where knitters knit blankets and teddies for third world countries, a telephone befriending service aimed at the housebound, we have volunteers working in schools helping children read and reminiscing about the war memories, we have volunteers working at hospitals with the stroke patients and providing them with light entertainment.
In addition to this I also manage my own project known as active volunteering by disabled people. The idea of the project is to recruit disabled people in Barnet and provide them with supported volunteering depending on their circumstances, personality, skills and their interests.
We deal with a large clientele and with a vast spectrum of disabilities including learning disability, physical and sensory impairment and mental health service users.
