Kisharon
Kisharon is an inspirational organisation providing cutting edge education and care for Jewish children and adults with learning difficulties in an Orthodox Jewish setting. Kisharon means ‘talent’. Every individual has talents. Kisharon services are planned around the individual, taking into account their needs, wishes and aspirations.
Kisharon’s comprehensive services ensure that hundreds of individuals and their families are excellently supported every step of the way.
Kisharon’s Advice and Support Services help parents from the early stage of identifying their child’s special needs and through every stage thereafter.
The TuffKid Nursery provides a unique environment where toddlers with special needs can play alongside their mainstream peers whilst being supported to overcome and cope with their difficulties.
The Kisharon Day School couples outstanding educational practice with a rich Jewish curriculum in a warm nurturing environment.
Kisharon’s Adult Service encourages choice and strives for independence and community participation for each individual.
The Asher Loftus Business Centre teaches transferable work skills and enables individuals to experience the positive value of his/her contribution to their work.
Residential facilities provided at the Hanna Schwalbe Home and Supported Living encourages young adults to take control of their own lives and develop the skills required to look after themselves.
Learning difficulties, by definition, have a lasting effect on development. These individuals and their families will require ongoing support throughout their lives. They cannot cope without this support. Kisharon is their lifeline.
At Kisharon we take a Person Centred Approach in everything we do. This means that the needs and aspirations, as expressed by the people we support, are at the very heart of the design and delivery of our services so that we can empower them as individuals to live the lives they want to live.
Kisharon involves volunteers by choice AND necessity. Throughout our long history, volunteers have been at the heart of all that we have accomplished.
Across our services every day volunteers are working side by side with paid staff in a wide variety of roles, e.g. mini-bus drivers, befrienders, support group assistants, teachers, therapists, entertainers etc. to name but a few. They ensure that relevant skills and expertise are available at the right time for our service users or just that someone is on hand to encourage, give confidence and celebrate with them when they have achieved a goal.
That, in essence, is what volunteers are there for - to help Kisharon and the people we support achieve their goals.
