Sephardi Voices UK
Sephardi Voices UK is a video oral history project which aims to document and preserve the testimonies of Jews displaced from North Africa, the Middle East, and Iran who settled in the UK and built up new lives.
It is of the highest priority to preserve the memories of the elder generation of Sephardi/Mizrachi Jews in order to a) add their voices to the narratives created by different agencies to establish a more comprehensive accounting of the Sephardi experience; b) to ensure that their memories will be passed on to their children and grandchildren and thus create a sense of continuity and pride within families and wider communities; c) to provide resources for teaching programmes at universities and schools.
Sephardi Voices thus caters to the urgent need for more understanding and knowledge of the experiences of Jews from North Africa and the Middle East within the wider historical framework while simultaneously adding value to a sense of history within Jewish communities and within individual families.
