Paperweight
At a time of crisis, the everyday burden of dealing with the practicalities of paperwork & bureaucracy can become intolerable, a seemingly unstoppable tide and insurmountable burden.
Paperweight steps in, either following a self referral or on the recommendation of social care organisations (Jewish Care, Chai, Cancer Care, Norwood amongst others), Synagogue personnel or counsellors to help break down these barriers into manageable obstacles.
Our clients may have lost a partner through death, separation or divorce, be newly alone or dealing with an increasingly frail partner, or becoming ill and less agile themselves.
• We are proactive when it comes to debt management, household expenditure and all domestic outgoings.
• We will intervene with creditors and try to stabilise mushrooming problems.
• We write to the banks, taxman, councils, utilities etc
• We will get to the bottom of historic problems and provide a clear and manageable schedule of what the numbers are and which ones need priority attention.
• We fill in forms which can run to 40 pages and which have brought tears to our client’s eyes when trying to decipher impenetrable terminology.
Where legal, accountancy or investment advice is required we direct clients to professionals and will, if the occasion merits, attend meetings with these professionals to help them enunciate their problem and to calm their nerves.
We will act as advocate and document drafter for Beis Din or Court, particularly in matters of divorce settlements, Get issues and child contact, drafting in expert opinion to ensure that there are no conflicts of law.
We do all this gratis and bring immense relief to our burdened clients.
We are Paperweight, a cross-communal service where case workers achieve results that other organisations cannot by virtue of their more restricted and directed brief, and limits of manpower.
Just because we cannot do everything does not mean we cannot do something.
And every little something adds up to a great unburdening for our clients in crisis. And we lift the burden, because we are Paperweight.
