Adults
JVN works with people of all ages promoting the widest variety of volunteering opportunities. From a young 20 year old to a young 100 year old; early retirees or active 80s; whether you are male or female; working, not working or in between jobs - look no further for volunteering opportunities to suit you.
Adult Volunteering can include trusteeship, becoming a school governor, lay leadership roles as well as a plethora of more traditional volunteering activities. Whatever your situation, your skills would be invaluable to many charities.
For more information about trusteeships, please a look at the trustee page
If you are interested in lay leadership opportunities and leadership development, contact Sam Clifford on sam.clifford@ujia.com or go to the UJIA website www.ujia.org
Do you need a little extra support to get volunteering?
Sometimes it's necessary to get a little extra help to get volunteering. JVN has - since 2008 - been working in partnership with Jewish Care, JAMI and Norwood (formerly The Gateway Project which was funded by the Department of Health) to encourage those volunteers who need some support volunteering.
This has included people who might have some physical disability and/or people with a mental health challenges as well as those with learning disabilities or simply extra shy or unconfident. The list is not intended to be exhaustive but highlights some of those groups who may need some extra support to start volunteering.
From our experience we know that volunteering can provide...
- Increased self confidence
- Provides structure to the day / week
- The chance to gain new skills
- An opportunity to make new friends and do something enjoyable
- A pathway to paid employment
- A sense of self worth
JVN wants to make this possible for everyone in the community as everyone has a skill they can offer and a contribution they can make. So, depending on your (the volunteer) support needs, a mentor can:
- Meet to discuss your interests to best match them to the volunteering options available
- Contact the organisation on your behalf
- Accompany you on your first visit to an organisation
- Work alongside you at your first sessions
- Help with travel issues
- Offer support and skill development
JVN works with a range of organisations to promote volunteering. We provide support and training to both volunteers and host organisations to make volunteering a positive experience for all concerned.
