VOLUNTEER COORDINATORS NETWORKING EVENT – April 2010

At the recent Volunteer Coordinators event over 40 organisations came together. We were delighted to launch the Good Practice Guidelines for Volunteering in the Jewish Community. The Guidelines are a collaborative effort between ten leading charities. Written both for organisations and individual volunteers, the Guidelines provide a framework to help ensure that both parties gain as much as possible from the act of volunteering.
The aim of the Guidelines is to help organisations recognise the value and support that volunteers offer, and be better equipped to find volunteers who can meet their needs; and to give volunteers a deeper understanding of what organisations need from volunteers, encouraging them to think carefully about the skills they can offer in order to get the most out of their volunteering experience.

Patrick Scott, National Support Services Implementation Manager at Volunteering England, who spoke at the event said, “We are very pleased to be working in partnership with the Jewish Volunteering Network on cutting edge projects such as the Good Practice Guidelines. Our collaboration has given us a rich insight into some of the fantastic work going on in the Jewish volunteering community, and we are proud to endorse this guide.” He added, “Good practice volunteering guides like this help ensure that our combined volunteering practice is consistent, opportunities to improve volunteering are seized and our collective volunteering impact is maximised.”

We were also delighted to welcome Lisa Robbins from Experts in Volunteering who introduced a Charter that has been developed by Greater London Volunteering in close consultation with the London Volunteer Centre network. It gives clear guidance as to what makes excellent volunteering experiences, and provides assurance for volunteers looking to get involved in organisations that support London’s communities. VOLUNTEER COORDINATORS NETWORKING EVENT - 14TH JULY 2009

Over 40 Jewish charities attended the Jewish Volunteering Network's Volunteer Coordinators Networking seminar. The aim of this network is to share ideas, resources and meet other professionals who work with volunteers from different charities. The event was hosted by Chai Cancer Care. Leonie Lewis, Director of JVN, welcomed everyone emphasizing the role of JVN as the facilitator of this community network and reiterating the aims of the network as a forum to encourage people to work more closely together.

A presentation was made by Lia Bogod, Volunteer Coordinator of World Jewish Relief who spoke about how she created the WJR volunteering project the Big Hand. Councilor Barry Rawlings of Barnet also addressed the audience and spoke about the changes in legislation regarding vulnerable people and CRB checking and the effects this will have on volunteering organizations.

Here are some of the website links that Barry mentioned in his talk and also some extra information that has been contributed by some of the Volunteer Coordinators in the network.
