GesherEU Support Network

GesherEU (Gesher meaning "bridge") acts as the bridge between those who have chosen to leave the socially excluding ultra-orthodox (Charedi) community and who want to enter mainstream British society. The charity does not promote or encourage people to leave the Charedi community. GesherEU is open to anyone who is looking for support as they leave their isolating, socially excluding, proscribed life and begin to enter mainstream society where they will need to live independently, support themselves financially, making their own life-choices and decisions. The very act of leaving the Charedi community means that these vulnerable adults and their children will have lost their entire support network, having been ostracised by their family, friends, community and all that is familiar to them. With extremely limited education and with Yiddish being their first and often only language, they find it extremely difficult to navigate the modern world. GesherEU is a relatively new charity, registered with the Charity Commission in May 2014. It is run by a dedicated group of trustees and volunteers. We are currently developing the volunteer roles and teams - so watch this space for some very exciting and vital volunteering opportunities that will have direct impact on those who have courageously approached GesherEU for help.
