My name is Adam Rose, and I'm a lawyer based in London. During my time at university, I somehow found myself becoming editor of UJS’s monthly magazine, Alef. After a year abroad for study, I decided I wanted to stand to be National Secretary of UJS, which was one of the two elected sabbatical roles.
A week after October 7th 2023, a barrister I knew, Adam Wagner, was seeking a solicitor’s instruction on behalf of an MP. One of this MP’s constituents’ 80-year-old parents had been taken hostage in Gaza.
At 7:23 in the morning, he got in touch asking for help, and at 7:24 in the morning, I said yes. For the next two years, Adam and I spent a huge amount of time advocating for the British hostages and their families.
In the end, there were seven British families of ten hostages who were British. We worked trying to get the British government to do everything it could for them.
"All our support of this has been done voluntarily, on a pro bono basis, as we lawyers like to say."
