Registering as a volunteer can open up a whole new world of volunteering opportunities
My name is Alexandra Weiss, and I volunteer at the Liberal Jewish synagogue in St. John's Wood. I got married in the Liberal Synagogue, and volunteering has been a very useful tool to actually feel part of the community. So, when I say I volunteer, yes, I do, but I really enjoy doing it. A very important part of my volunteering is being part of the bereavement support group.
It's a completely confidential space where we support our bereaved members in a way that’s right for them. I think that's important - giving your community what they really want. I'm also part of the ‘Keep in Touch’ annual Tea Party for our more elderly members. But I'm now at the stage where I very much like to sit down and have a cup of tea and be served tea as well!
"The best thing about volunteering is knowing our community. Although I'm part of all these different groups, it all stems from knowing our community."
