City Harvest

Warehouse Assistant

Our Warehouse Assistants are crucial to keeping City Harvest’s vans rolling and making sure our food is ready to go out to feed London. They are the packers, the stackers, the sorters, and porters of our operation. Every volunteering experience with City Harvest will vary, as roles assigned will depend on the time and the needs of the day. You could be unloading deliveries, checking and sorting food, creating mixed meal boxes for the homeless, or carrying out other warehouse tasks to help in the day-to-day running of our operation. By volunteering with us for a day, individuals have the chance to make a direct positive impact on thousands of vulnerable people in London. Because of the time our volunteers donate to helping City Harvest, many Londoners facing obstacles such as homelessness, food poverty, and/or domestic abuse will have access to a nutritious meal. Not only this, but there is a significant environmental impact to our work too! The food that we rescue would otherwise go to landfill, where it would release harmful greenhouse gases as it decomposes. Therefore, your days’ work will also make a tremendous difference to both people and the planet! Currently, we operate across two different sites. Our New Covent Garden Market site is open Monday-Friday from 8am – 12pm. Our Acton site is open Monday-Friday 8.30am – 6pm and Saturdays 9am – 6pm. We offer a mix of 2 hour or 4 hour shifts which our volunteers can sign up for. We work in a very lively, busy environment, where you will be working and meeting people from all walks of life, coming together to make a positive difference in our communities. A lot of our activities in our warehouse can be physically demanding, as we are sorting and packing food for delivery. Please send us a message if you would like to find out more information.

Not sure which role suits you or need a little friendly help? Please contact our volunteer broker at volunteerbroker@jvn.org.uk for London or Rebecca at manchester@jvn.org.uk for Manchester.

WHY VOLUNTEER WITH CITY HARVEST?

Volunteer at City Harvest London, a fast-moving food redistribution charity rescuing food from going to waste and delivering 1 million meals every month, for free, to 375+ charities across London.

Across the UK, the cost-of-living crisis has created a food emergency. Currently, 1 in 4 Londoners struggles to afford to eat yet London produces nearly 2 million tonnes of food waste each year. City Harvest rescues nutritious food from going to waste and we need your help to get it to those communities who rely on our support.

Volunteer roles with City Harvest are critical to our impact. For every hour you volunteer, City Harvest is able to deliver enough food for 530 meals. Without the time and support of our volunteers, we simply could not do this!

Volunteering at City Harvest is also a lot of fun! According to a recent survey, 100% of our volunteers would recommend our volunteer experience!
