CONFERENCE - Volunteering: Effecting and Measuring Change

Wednesday 28th November 2018, 09:30-15:00
Harrow, London
Join JVN for our second conference for Volunteer Managers and CEOs. Hear from the dynamic Rob Jackson, who will be addressing us on the subject of 'Understanding and Effecting Real Change for Success in Volunteer Involvement’, and from Mandy James of Volunteering Matters on 'How to Measure the Impact of Volunteering in your Organisation'.

Rob Jackson is one of the leading authorities on volunteering in the world. For much for his career he has been involved at the coalface of volunteer management before moving to strategic roles in the volunteering movement, most notably within Volunteering England. Rob is an incisive thinker on volunteering trends and stategy, a first-rate writer, facilitator and public speaker. He co-authored two books and has contributed to dozens of national and international publications.

Rob will discuss “Understanding & Engaging 21st Century Volunteers” - looking at some of the key ways in which society is changing and how these changes affect volunteerism. He will identify what leaders of volunteers can do to update their practices to accommodate these changes, further enhancing their engagement and retention of 21st century volunteers.

His second session,“Influencing to Make Change Happen”, will look at the rarely understood subject of effective volunteer engagement strategy, often neglected by senior managers. He will advise participants on how to influence and help their senior leadership gain a new perspective on volunteering and lay the foundation for the effective volunteer involvement.

After Rob's sessions participants will have:

  • Reflected on the changes that might be needed in their organisations
  • Examined the importance of a clear purpose for involving volunteers across their organisation
  • Clarified the change they want to see in their organisation and developed an action plan to realise that change
  • Considered how their personal practice can influence change to create a more positive volunteering culture

Mandy James, Policy and Engagement Manager at Volunteering Matters will discuss, “How to Measure the Impact of Volunteering in your Organisation.”

Volunteering Matters, known as CSV until 2015, has been leading UK volunteering in policy and practice for more than 50 years. Every year they engage more than 300,000 volunteers through 100+ volunteer projects and programmes that they develop and deliver. Through years of successful work and measuring their impact they know as no other that investing in people through the power of volunteering makes a tangible difference to the volunteer, the beneficiary and society as a whole.
