Registering as a volunteer can open up a whole new world of volunteering opportunities
Since the pandemic, audiology services have largely moved away from drop-in clinics. As a result, many vulnerable people are now waiting weeks for basic hearing support, leaving them isolated and struggling to stay connected. That’s where you come in. Our dedicated volunteers visit people in their homes, often within just a few days, providing practical help and human connection when it’s needed most. With full training, you’ll learn how to carry out simple hearing aid maintenance, identify common faults (whether with the device or tubing), and offer hands-on support to keep people hearing clearly. You’ll also play an important role in spotting when additional equipment could help, working closely with the Service Manager to ensure each person gets the support they need. This is an essential service. Hundreds of people across Barnet rely on it and demand is growing. What is involved? Expect around 3 to 4 visits a month on average Visits typically last up to an hour Flexible and manageable commitment What you’ll receive Comprehensive, practical training Ongoing support from a dedicated Service Manager Reimbursement of all appropriate expenses What we’re looking for A practical, problem-solving mindset Reliability and compassion A genuine desire to help others We already have a fantastic team of volunteers making a real impact and the feedback from those they support has been overwhelmingly positive. If you’re looking for a meaningful, flexible way to give back, we’d love to hear from you.
