Jewish Quarterly

The JQ has been a pillar of Jewish intellectual life across the English-speaking world for over 70 years. Founded in the early 1950s by Jacob Sontag, we have been the home for the *best in Jewish thought and writing* ever since.

In the mid-2000s, we did not navigate the change in readership and retail at all well - our small intense group of writer editors dropped the ball. For a few years, we ceased publication.

We came back to life in 2021 with a new operating model, a combination of Anglosphere editors and publishers, with a foothold in London and another in Melbourne, Australia.

Since our rebirth, we have continued to commission and publish great writing from great thinkers - on a range of topics that are interesting to any Jewish or non-Jewish reader who enjoys intelligent, well written, but accessible long-form non-fiction. In 2023, we doubled down on this and now each essay features only 1 long-form essay, by an outstanding writer. Now, even more than ever before, the JQ is vital, a fantastic read, a superb-vantage point on history. The JQ was, and remains, a genuine treasure for our community.

We are passionate about what we do. It may not be easy to grab readers' attention in this digital attention economy, but the writing we commission and publish makes the battle oh-so-tremendously worthwhile. We welcome you to the team and hope you'll soon be as passionate about the JQ as we are.
