JVN Good practice in Volunteer Management Charter

We are delighted you are interested in applying for the JVN Good Practice in Volunteer Management Charter. By confirming your charity incorporates these practices and principles into your volunteer management, we will gladly provide you with a certificate of good practice.

In addition, we will proudly present you with JVN's Seal of Recognition for good practice, which you can display on your website and in your publications. This mark serves as a valuable point of reference, showcasing your commitment to funders, volunteers, and beneficiaries.

We understand every charity has its unique circumstances and challenges. If you feel unable to sign this charter or fulfil all the requirements at this time, please let us know. We are here to support you in developing your volunteer management function, and our partnership aims to provide assistance tailored to your needs.

By working together, we can create a rewarding experience for your volunteers and make a meaningful impact in our community. We eagerly look forward to collaborating with you on this journey.

This section helps you assess your charity's ability to onboard and integrate new volunteers effectively with the support of the staff team. A structured, inclusive approach ensures volunteers feel welcome, supported, and set up for success.

Volunteer roles are developed collaboratively with the staff responsible for the volunteers.

Prior to bringing in new volunteers, you conduct an assessment to help identify where volunteer support is required and determine the skills and experience needed for the role.

The volunteer recruitment process is structured to attract potential volunteers who possess the necessary skills.

Volunteers are provided with a role description and understand how their role supports the charity.

This section looks at how you handle new applications. It’s all about finding the right people to make a meaningful impact.

Prospective volunteer applications are responded to promptly, ideally within 2 days, demonstrating your commitment to their interest in supporting your charity.

Each applicant receives a response that includes information about the role, training or background checks needed to fulfil the role. In this way, they have a clear understanding of the role and how you will support them.

Applicants who express an interest and have the relevant skills are invited for an interview.

Following the interview, you provide feedback to applicants, including the next steps in their application i.e. references and training.

You maintain an inclusive approach throughout the application process, ensuring communications are respectful, free from discrimination, and considerate of applicants' needs.

Non-selected applicants are thanked for their interest and told their application will be kept for future opportunities or referred to other suitable organisations.

This section focuses on showing your dedication to potential volunteers and leaving a lasting, positive impression of your charity.

New volunteers are welcomed by staff and existing volunteers.

New volunteers are provided with an overview of the charities activities and directed to the relevant policies associated with volunteering, irrespective of their roles.
