Launched during Volunteers' Week 2015, the book is essential reading for volunteers who want to be aware of their rights and responsibilities in their roles, and for organisations that want to demonstrate good practice in volunteer management.
The Companion, with a forward written by Dr Justin Davis-Smith CBE, Executive Director of Volunteering and Development at the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), was introduced by the late Leonie Lewis and Lia Bogod, who was JVN's Volunteer Development Manager.
Dr Rafael Zarum, Dean of the London School of Jewish Studies (LSJS), also contributed to the book believes volunteering is a crucial intrinsic part of Judaism. He noted JVN is not merely "an organisation that promotes volunteering", but is also an organisation tied up in its essence with the Jewish values that embody chesed - kindness, or love.
