Sit and Chat Volunteer
The League of Jewish Women is looking for friendly and compassionate volunteers to visit elderly residents at a care home in Prestwich for one hour each week.
Volunteers will spend time with a small group of residents, providing companionship and social interaction. Activities may include:
• Chatting and listening to residents' stories and experiences
• Engaging in reminiscence activities
• Playing board games and other simple activities
• Providing company and helping residents enjoy their afternoon
• Supporting residents who may be experiencing loneliness or social isolation
The role is available Monday to Friday, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm, with volunteers able to choose the afternoon that best suits their availability.
This opportunity is open to people of all genders.
What difference you will make
By volunteering in this role, you will help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation among older people living in residential care. Your companionship and conversation can have a positive impact on residents' wellbeing, confidence, and quality of life. Through regular visits, you will help create meaningful social connections and brighten someone's day.
What additional skills or experience you should have
No previous experience is required. We are looking for volunteers who are:
• Friendly, patient, and reliable
• Good listeners with a caring and empathetic nature
• Comfortable engaging with older people
• Able to commit to regular weekly or fortnightly visits
What training we will provide for you
Volunteers will receive:
• An introduction to the role and the care home environment
• Guidance on communicating and engaging with older residents
• Ongoing support from the League of Jewish Women and care home staff
