The Jewish Representative Council of Greater Manchester and Region, the Jewish Volunteering Network (JVN) and the Jewish Telegraph hosted the Manchester Jewish Community Awards 2014 at the Longfield Suite, Prestwich, on the evening of Tuesday 11th March. Over three hundred people were present at the event to honour those members of the community who have selflessly given up their time for the benefit of others. Hosted by Angela Epstein, the ceremony paid tribute to volunteers young and old, inspirational communal employees, those who have built bridges between the Jewish community and the wider Manchester community, non-Jewish friends of the community, and to Dr. Sydney Baigel who won the Lifetime Achievement Award. The Independent Judging Panel, chaired by David Berkley Q.C., also gave out four Special Recognition Awards to individuals who they judged to be worthy of exceptional praise.
The event also incorporated a Community Volunteering Fair, which brought over 20 charities together to showcase their volunteering opportunities and recruit new volunteers. Melissa Chapman, who helped Co-ordinate the event on behalf of JVN, said...
