Registering as a volunteer can open up a whole new world of volunteering opportunities
Pamela Livingston’s lifetime of service to JLGB and the Glasgow Jewish community is remarkable in its longevity, depth, and impact. Joining JLGB aged just 14, she rose through the ranks as a dedicated member of the Glasgow group and the JLGB Pipe Band before becoming an 18-year-old adult volunteer.
At a time when Glasgow JLGB was dwindling in numbers, Pam singlehandedly revitalised the group, rebuilding it to over 100 members. She went on to lead not only the Glasgow Battalion but also the entire Provincial Regiment (representing the whole of the North region of JLGB) and helped to organise JLGB’s modern-day Israel Tour in the 1990s – a programme that still continues today.
Whether mentoring new leaders or supporting long-time volunteers, she brings out the best in those around her.
As a natural mentor, she has shaped the personal and professional journeys of countless young people.
Words by Neil Martin, OBE, Chief Executive of JLGB
