Rae joined the North Cheshire Young WIZO group in 1962 as a newly married lady. This group in North Cheshire had been formed in 1961 with meetings held on Tuesday evenings. The members were all young married people living in South Manchester, and these evening meetings became a big part of their social life at the time.

After undertaking many different ‘jobs’ within the group, Rae became Chair. The group then changed its name, dropping the word 'Young'. It was a good move as many members are now in their 80’s and 90’s!

Rae’s home acts as an open house for WIZO meetings, sewing, baking, teaching embroidery in years gone past and now teaching a group to play Mahjong- all to raise funds for WIZO.

Rae feels the friendships she has made from being a member of WIZO have far outweighed what she has done for the charity.
