Volunteering is the bedrock on which the Jewish community was built. The changes that have already started pre-pandemic were accelerated by the pandemic. Charities may find that the volunteers they had before the pandemic may not be the same as after and in any case, they may need different roles to be filled.
How will we all navigate the transition from the outpouring of volunteering at the start of the pandemic to the longer-term implications of engaging volunteers to support the community to thrive?

Guest Speakers:
Joe Saxton, keynote speaker, Joe is the founder of nfpSynergy, which provides high-quality market research and consulting services exclusively for charities and non-profit organisations. He is now focusing on his new venture heyheyjoe. Joe was chair of the Institute of Fundraising from 2005-2008. He was co-founder and chair of CharityComms from 2006 to 2013, and chair of the student environment and development campaign group People & Planet from 2005 to 2015. For six years he was a trustee of the RSPCA and chair of both the Public Affairs and International committees. He is now chair of the Parentkind which has over 14,000 members and aims to develop parent engagement with schools.
Catherine Johnstone CBE, Catherine became Chief Executive of the RVS in a August 2017 having joined the charity as Trustee at the start of 2017. She brings with her a weath of experience garnered over 25 years in the third sector. During her time as CEO of Samaritans, Catherine was responsible for building long term sustainable partnerships and delivering a five-year strategy to revitalise and future proof the charity. Her experience in engaging with volunteers at an organisation led by volunteers will is invaluable in her role at Royal Voluntary Service. Catherine was awarded a CBE in 2016 for her services to suicide prevention.
Shaun Delaney, Shaun (he, him) is currently Head of Volunteering Policy and Partnerships with DCMS. This follows 18 months of leading COVID-19 volunteering policy with this government department. Before the pandemic, he led the volunteering development at NCVO for three years, overseeing strategy for the development of volunteering and volunteer management good practice in England. He joined NCVO following five years as Head of Volunteering at Samaritans, leading the involvement of 20,000 volunteers across the UK and Republic of Ireland. Before that he was with Volunteer Centre Greenwich supporting 300+ members organising to involve volunteers as well as working on Olympic/Paralympic-related programmes. Away from work, Shaun is director of the Association of Volunteer Managers and has just finished eight years as a trustee of London Plus. He completed his MSc in civil society management in 2014 looking at the application of psychological contract theory in volunteering management – which he is now following up with a master’s degree in occupational psychology.
