The event had representatives from over 20 charities across the Jewish and non-Jewish spectrum, all of which continue to benefit from Ros’s voluntary contributions. Charities present included Nightingale Hammerson, Wizo, Jewish Women’s Aid, Interfaith Network, and the Board of Deputies.
Attendees enjoyed a buffet brunch whilst short speeches were made by Ros’ husband Ronnie Preston and daughter Sue Fisher.
Highlight of the brunch was an interview by Lady Winston with Ros about her lifetime achievements in volunteering.
JVN also took this opportunity, in partnership with Ros, to launch ‘The President’s Project’, a new initiative aimed at getting more mature women involved in volunteering. The project will encourage women to use their life skills and interests to bring friendship and support to the elderly and lonely people who would benefit from and enjoy additional human contact. Recent surveys indicate that one out of every five elderly people in the UK who feel lonely say they have no-one to turn to . The Presidents Project will aim to reduce that number while giving more senior women the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of others.
