Round table discussion - synagogue volunteer coordinators

Monday 16th June 2014

PRESS RELEASE                                                                              16 June 2014

Jewish Volunteering Network leads round table discussion to promote synagogue volunteering

The Jewish Volunteering Network (JVN) held the first cross-community round table discussion to promote volunteering in synagogues at their offices on Monday 16th June.  Twenty three London synagogues from across the community came together to discuss the varied aspects of volunteering.

Participants from the US, Masorti, Spanish and Portuguese, Reform and Liberal Communities shared concerns regarding volunteers including recruitment, retention, recognition, support and management.  All agreed that this was an exceptionally valuable network meeting that should ensure volunteers gain the maximum benefit for the magnificent contribution they make, to maintain our rich communal life.

Lia Bogod, Volunteer Development Manager, Jewish Volunteering Network (JVN), who coordinated the meeting, said: “It was an exceptionally valuable networking meeting. It is clear that the same issues arise across the community – the need to attract more volunteers of all ages and to meet their expectations and interests so that we can retain their valuable services.”
