Registering as a volunteer can open up a whole new world of volunteering opportunities
My name's Sandy Weinbaum. I grew up in Ilford in a traditional Jewish family. Many of my earliest recollections are of rolling Tombola tickets for the Shul dinner.
As I got older, I joined various youth groups where, again, volunteering was part of that. In the year 2000, we started something called the Jewish Family Centre, which took on the role of providing support workers and therapists for families within the community.
We always took the view that if you can't afford services, those services shouldn't be denied to you. Having brought up a large family and knowing how tight money could be, I wanted to make sure that everything was available for people without there being a price tag attached to it.
" I hope that G-d will bless me with many more years to be able to carry on doing this work for the community. I love doing it. I cherish the good moments."
