Sephardi Voices UK

Sephardi Voices UK (www.sephardivoices.org.uk) is an oral history project dedicated to documenting the life history of Jews from the Middle East, North Africa and Iran who have resettled in the UK after been compelled to leave their country of birth.
Our mission is to create an academically rigorous audio-visual archive of testimonies, documents and photographs that can be used as family archives and material for historians, educators and research.
As of October 2020 we have conducted 115 interviews, produced 20 educational films, created an archival system for over 1000 documents and photographs and curated an exhibition at the London Jewish Museum. Our archive is deposited and accessible at the British Library and at the Museum of the Jewish People in Tel Aviv.
SVUK is unique in the UK, bringing to life the rich history, culture and traditions of Sephardi and Mizrahi Jews, largely ignored by the current Jewish education curriculum.
Our ambition is to now leverage this modern day genizah to raise awareness and contribute to educational programmes.
