Voices of the Holocaust is a theatre for education charity and the only theatre company of its kind in Europe. Endorsed by the AJR and the European Jewish Congress as well as Holocaust educators and academics from around the world. Voices has performed at the European Parliament as part of their International Holocaust Remembrance Day event, attended 10 Downing Street to discuss their work with the government’s Holocaust Commission and received a standing ovation at an internationally screened USA Jewish Theatre Foundation event. Voices and its artistic director Cate Hollis have also been nominated for the Simon Wiesenthal Prize for civic engagement for their work in the field of Holocaust education.

Founded with the objective to ensure that the voices of survivors and victims of the Holocaust would not be lost in the post survivor era and that, if the stories were told in the right way, that theatre could be the surrogate human voice to continue telling stories that needed to be told...

Our Principles

Our mission is to show that sustainable, sensitive, dynamic, contemporary theatre can become their powerful surrogate human voice. We are a theatre for education charity; our plays are historically accurate, woven with core educational themes and ideas.

The charity works in schools and communities, performs in school halls and theatres, village halls and on world platforms, at academic conferences and small community events. The charity advises schools on their Holocaust education programmes, has run professional development sessions with Facing History International and has advised the Holocaust Educational Trust on their Drama resource pack. Voices uses professional actors and integrates an apprenticeship programme across all aspects of the production, from acting through to stage management and lighting.

Voices currently provides three tours per year in schools, colleges, and venues across the south of England and the Midlands, working with around 20+ schools in each term and impacting thousands of students and school staff as well as the wider community. The charity works with staff to integrate performance and workshops, discussion and learning into the student experience.
