School governors are an essential element contributing to the excellent schools that we have in the community. There is often the misconception that one needs a background in education to be a school governor or else to be a parent of a child at that school.
This is absolutely not the case. A school's governing body needs to have a range of complementary skills to be as effective as it can be.
If you have ever considered becoming a school governor (or even if you haven't so far!) please come and take the opportunity to attend this session run by PaJeS (Partnerships for Jewish Schools) in conjunction with JVN (the Jewish Volunteering Network). You will hear what the role entails, have the opportunity to meet other governors at both primary and secondary level and ask any questions that you might have. The session will be run by Sue Nyman who is Chair of Yavneh College Academy Trust and was previously governor of another secondary school, together with Susy Stone who is the retiring Headteacher of Akiva Primary School and has been a governor at JFS as well as at two primary schools.
You are invited to arrive at 6:45pm for a light supper. PaJeS will give an update on their recent work at 7:30pm and the session will begin at 8pm. There is also the option to just come for the session.
