Registering as a volunteer can open up a whole new world of volunteering opportunities
At Volunteers of Wheels, our small fleet of vans is the lifeblood of our operation. Without them, we can't rescue surplus food or support North London food banks. We are looking for a reliable, hands-on volunteer to look after our vehicles and ensure they are always safe, roadworthy, and ready to roll. This is the perfect role for a retired person who is wants to make a tangible difference in their local community. Key Responsibilities • Fuel & Fluids: Regularly filling the vans with fuel and checking/topping up engine oil, coolant, and screenwash. • Safety Checks: Monitoring tyre pressure, tread depth, and ensuring all lights and indicators are working perfectly. • Minor Repairs: Undertaking basic, minor maintenance as required (e.g., replacing wiper blades, bulbs, or fuses). • Reporting: Keeping a simple log of vehicle health and flagging any major issues that require professional garage attention. What We Are Looking For • Practical knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and routine checks. • A valid UK driving licence (to move the vans to fuel stations). • Reliability, attention to detail, and a safety-first mindset. • Someone based locally in North London with flexible daytime availability. What’s in it for You? • Drive Local Impact: You will be the backbone of our logistics—without you, our drivers can't deliver! • Expenses Covered: All fuel, parts, and out-of-pocket expenses are fully covered by the charity. • Flexible Hours: Fits easily around your existing weekly routine.
