Royal Seal of Approval for JVN

You may remember that JVN, supported by the Board of Deputies, conducted a campaign in 2012 on behalf of the Jewish community called the Jubilee Hour campaign. The campaign encouraged people to give 60 minutes of their time for Her Majesty The Queen’s 60 years of public service. JVN collected 50,000 hours from the Jewish community last year. We recently received the following letter addressed to JVN Director Leonie from the campaign’s founder, John O’Brien. Thank you to everyone who dedicated their Jubilee Hours last year and helped make the campaign such a success!

Dear Leonie,

The Jewish Volunteering Network and The Jubilee Hour

As we approach the culmination of The Jubilee Hour, I wanted to write specifically to thank JVN for the enormously valuable support it has given towards the campaign.

As you know it was a very short notice appeal to act and had little resource or staff team and as such, in the very same spirit evoked by JVN, we could only be successful if supported by organisations such as your own. Your encouragement and practical support in using your networks and knowledge, as well as media connections were instrumental in creating that success and I am extremely grateful for JVN taking such a lead. It has been a delight and pleasure to work with such motivated people

.

I recently submitted a report to Her Majesty which included reference to JVN and received the following message from Buckingham Palace which I pass on accordingly:

“Her Majesty is well aware of the great effort that has been applied to this and she has asked that her thanks and good wishes be passed on to all those who has so generously volunteered their time. It was the Queen’s hope that her diamond Jubilee would provide an opportunity for communities, groups and individuals to come together in a way that they would not otherwise be able to do, and there is no doubt that your initiative has made a notable contribution to achieving this ambition.”

Edward Young LVO Deputy Private Secretary to The Queen.

The Jubilee Hour mobilisation remains an important network of the like-minded individuals and as such I do hope that we can continue to collaborate, perhaps in respect of the forthcoming WW1 commemoration which you are already aware of and being so helpful in making referrals.

It only really remains for me to wish all at JVN continued success in your own endeavours and a prosperous 2013.  Personally it has been both inspiring and humbling to see the efforts put in by so many and in playing a small role in bringing this initiative to fruition I have very much been enriched by being introduced to new organisations such as JVN, where I hope this will not be the end of our association. I would

be most grateful if you could pass on my thanks to your trustees and volunteers.

Yours sincerely
