Can you volunteer to help residents to enjoy the activities at Jewish Care's Sunridge Court and spending time chatting and socialising with them too.
The team at Sunridge Court in Golders Green are seeking a volunteer to spend time at Sunridge Court engaging with our residents, helping the team, chatting and befriending residents and bringing a warm and friendly demeaner. The role involves friendly conversation and supporting light activities such as bingo and quizzes.
What you’ll be doing in this role:
Volunteering weekly at Sunridge Court
Chatting and socialising with residents with a warm and friendly manner
Assisting with small group activities (e.g. bingo, quizzes, singalongs)
Helping the staff team with various task related to activities, as required
Encouraging residents to join in
Helping to make activities fun and enjoyable for those attending
Reporting back to the Activities Team as required
What difference you will make
Volunteer support with this role helps to bring social interaction and enjoyment to the residents, reduces isolation, encourages participation in group events and activities, and has a huge and positive contribution to residents general overall wellbeing.
What additional skills or experience you should have
A warm and friendly personality and a ‘can do’ attitude
Confidently engage with a diverse range of people and enjoy helping others.
A strong understanding and of issues that affect people in later life.
Reliability, consistency and dependability.
Good conversational and listening skills with a clear speaking voice.
Patience, empathy and a non-judgemental attitude.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team, to also stay within the role’s boundaries – recognising what should and shouldn’t be done and when to seek advice or report concerns.
What training we will provide for you
Training is available so volunteers can carry out their roles to the highest professional standards, develop new skills, build confidence, make new friends and take on new and increasingly responsible tasks.
Jewish Care will provide the following training, essential for this role:
Provide you with access to a Volunteer Handbook and all Policies and Procedures.
Provide Induction Training: Getting to know Jewish Care, Communication & Disability Awareness, Boundaries & Confidentiality, Safeguarding, Health & Safety, GDPR.
Provide on the job induction.
