I owe my career to volunteering!
I started training as a volunteer adviser with a CAB in 1997, having left school with a few O Levels and not going on to any sort of training except secretarial!
In 1986 I was appointed as Deputy Manager of a CAB, and left the CAB service in 2004 where I had become a CEO! The training I got from the CAB, both as a volunteer and later as a staff member equipped me to do the work I now do as a governance consultant. If you had told me 40 years ago that I would be where I am now, I would have laughed!
That’s why I remain passionate about volunteering – it gave me a sense of worth, camaraderie, skills I didn’t know I was capable of possessing and a career!
