The JVN Guide to Thanking Volunteers

April 3, 2014

JVNAwards 2014_logo Why: Thanking volunteers is possibly the best way of keeping them involved. A recent JVN survey revealed that regularly thanked volunteers are more motivated – “The professional staff regular thank me for my contributions, which is lovely” – than ones who are not – “It would be nice if the organisation to thank me occasionally for my efforts! It’s very rare!” JVN_242 Who: It’s the organisation’s responsibility to thank volunteers.  It’s not always enough for the volunteer to know they’re helping the people that organisation helps. They also need to feel valued by other members of the team, from people in their department to the management team and trustees. What: Anything from a simple “thank you” to throwing your volunteers a party can be used to thank volunteers. But the thanks or reward should be appropriate. It’s important not to embarrass them – some volunteers may not want to be thanked or recognised, especially above other volunteering colleagues. Sarah Lasher and Henry Minkoff When: The JVN Jewish Volunteering Awards 2014, to be held on 8th September 2014, is your chance to reward the volunteers who make a difference in your organisation or community. There are eight different categories and nominations are open now! Make sure your volunteers have a chance to receive the reward they deserve. How: You can nominate volunteers or teams of volunteers for an award on the JVN website. Click here to visit the homepage and click on the Awards banner. You’ll then jump to a page which will tell you all the different nomination categories and how to make your nominations.
