Shared Reading and Quiz Support Volunteer - Anita Dorfman Residential Care Home, Sandringham, Stanmore
Anita Dorfman Residential Home is looking for volunteers/volunteer to support the Shared Reading/Quiz Lead volunteer, to assist with residents understanding or hearing, to increase their enjoyment and improve their engagement during the activity.
Sitting with residents who are living with and without dementia during the morning shared reading and or the afternoon quiz group. To help keep the residents stay engaged by re reading, explaining or just giving someone some extra support to enjoy their activity.
What difference you will make
By helping the lead volunteer to deliver these activities it will ensure that the residents get full enjoyment. You might be repeating passages, handing out materials or sitting with someone who needs a bit more support to achieve the most out of the activity. This will ensure the residents enjoyment is put at the front and centre of the activity. You will also gain experience to deliver the activities yourself.
What additional skills or experience you should have
A can - do and flexible attitude
A happy, confident, and positive demeanour.
Confidently engage with a diverse range of people and enjoy helping others.
A strong understanding and of issues that affect people in later life.
Reliability, consistency, and dependability.
Good conversational and listening skills with a clear speaking voice.
Patience, empathy, and a non-judgemental attitude.
The ability to work independently but also stay within the role’s boundaries – recognising what should and shouldn’t be done and when to seek advice or report concerns.
What training we will provide for you
Training is available so volunteers can carry out their roles to the highest professional standards, develop new skills, build confidence, make new friends and take on new and interesting tasks.
Jewish Care will provide the following training, essential for this role:
• Dementia training
• Provide you with access to a Volunteer Handbook and all Policies and Procedures.
• Provide Induction Training: Getting to know Jewish Care, Communication &
• Disability Awareness, Boundaries & Confidentiality, Safeguarding, Health & Safety,
• GDPR. And Montessori approach to Dementia
